TF2 Lag; need help

Ok, this is not copy pasta or trolling; but no one believes an anon ='[

anyway, I get massive lag in TF2.  Reducing the screen size doesn't help, neither does taking it down from 5.1 surround to headphones.  The lag ends when my sound card craps out, and it goes silent.  110% clear movement and killing, but no sounds =/
