FF VII hate?

Name: Anonymous 2008-03-09 7:52

I never understood why people hate FF VII, honestly. It seems that the majority of people who have some unfathomable dislike for the game just hate it for the fact that it's so popular, which makes no sense to me. I wasn't trying to start an argument or anything; the limited edition system looks cool, and I'm a fan of the game so I thought I'd share it with the board.

I don't understand it either. Even if you think the game is overrated, or you don't like it, you should at least be able to see that it's a good game(production, music, gameplay) in general, and to people who enjoy turn based RPGs. If people disklike it because it is popular, then something about the way people determine how a game can be good or bad is seriously wrong.

Oh, I don't know.  Good plot, dialogue, and presentation?  FFVII's plot was HORRIBLE shit, and if you tried to fill in the story's gaps, the fucking thing would turn around and tell you that wasn't what happened the second you did it.  It was a muddled piece of shit with maybe a tiny bit of entertainment value, but nothing important could possibly be learned by playing it.  The game pretty much shot its load within the first two hours, and once you were out of Midgar the game sucked ass to the Nth degree.  Not only that, but it had long since been bested in storytelling, dialogue, and everything that actually matters in an RPG; if you're playing an RPG for the combat, you're a fucking retard and should be playing something else.  Or you should just commit suicide for thinking that "HURF DURF PRESSAN X TO MAKE FAGGOT HIT FAGGOT FOR X DAMAGE" is fun.

There's a reason you should be have a philosophy/writing degree if you're going to attempt to write a deep story.  FFVII shows off why you should, but by doing everything wrong.
