Karel of Fire Emblem 7 and Sephiroth of Final Fantasy 7 do not mix. I hate the crossover like no other. I have it cause:
1-I like Karel and I dislike Sephiroth. Is that enough proof?
2-People like to cross characters because of their looks. It does not make any sense, especially if the characters are on opposite sides. Sephiroth is way too much of a tragic villain and Karel is too much of a good guy to meet up.
3- http://tinyurl.com/yptlxf - Somebody drew Karel as Sephiroth in this gallery somewhere, and I went WTH. Just unbelievable. It definitely was a "twisted image". He does not fit the role no matter hard you try.
4-They're the exact polar opposites. Mixing a goodside minor character known as the Sword Demon with an evil main antagonist known as the One Winged Angel? Err, just no.
5-Their futures are different. Karel got redeemed by the rest of the heroes of Fire Emblem and he became the Sword Saint. Sephiroth is more-then-likely to be dead by now, Cloud Strife avenges the death of Aerith and kills him.
6-In Fire Emblem 7, Karel did nothing but to seek out worthy oppoments and challenges them in battle, most of them being strong enemies of the antagonists' side. At least he does'nt kill the main protagonist's love interest or try to destroy the entire world like Sephiroth does. If they even met Karel would probably kill Sephiroth instead of joining him.
7-There are other characters in games and manga, including good guys and protagonists, that resemble Karel out there. I also noticed that Karel goes through a very Kenshin Himura-like transition, going from the Sword Demon to the Sword Saint, and most people these days are'nt aware of that.
8-Pairing Karel with Krystal of Starfox would be a better cross game couple then he would with Sephiroth. It also makes more sense. Let me prove it to you. What if the heroes of Fire Emblem think Karel needed a girlfriend and they decide to play matchmaker, and what if Krystal broke up with Starfox again and travels to a distant faraway galaxy and ends up in the world where FE took place? My theory: Karel decided to give up his life of killing and starts a new life with Krystal. She uses her telepathic powers to redeem him and helps him remember his past.
There is also something I am dying to point out before people rage in here shouting "OMG, Karel being a good guy makes him incredibly out of character!" I do not hate Karel, in fact I actually like him. But I get really annoyed when people give him bad characterization. Let it be fanfics or something else, I've had real serious issues about this. He may killed millions but he also joined the protagonists' side and fought the same enemies as they did and never joined the antagonists at all, and you just cannot deny that. So stop thinking Karel as a bad guy or villain because he's none of those! If you have any sense of human emotion you'd see him having a good-heart or doing heroic things, wasn't so unusual or out of character as you might think it is.
As you can see, he's not totally heartless, he's still has his old personality hidden inside, except it was rarely seen at that time he was a bloodthirsty Sword Demon in Fire Emblem 7. Remember when he met Lucius, and he said that he felt calm and had no urge to kill him? That's Karel in his very first personality that he had as a child, and his real personality that he gets later on, and you will find there are more reasons for him becoming the Sword Saint and getting redeemed by his comrades that will immensely aid the plot. I repeat, he's not a bad guy. He was just misunderstood.
While I have no problems with all the other characters in the Fire Emblem series, they're great or funny. It is only just Karel that I had serious issues and arguments about, and needed to settle this somehow.
End rant.
