How can sports games be improved?

Sports games need to evolve past simple representations of a sport that never changes.  Think of ways to evolve the genre:

-Football with busty females wearing dragonquest armor while fighting for their respective kingdom
-Loli soccer where penalties remove shorts
-Curling with hand to hand combat and fatalities
-Tennis vs Godzilla

soccer game with animals with specia labilites so they can turn into iron or do a combo or fly kick or do something other cool

How about we take a popular videogame franchise, and take another popular videogame franchise, and but them head to head in the 2008 Beijing Olympi- wait.. deja vu..

As long as it makes sense in their respective contexts.  You wouldn't want a particularly speedy character to run slow, for example.
