360: Red Ring of Death

I'll be sending my 360 to Microsoft soon because of the red ring of death, but I got Mass Effect today and I was hoping I could use the TOWEL TRICK. I know I melt something in it when I do it, but if I use the towel trick, will I damage the 360 in a way that makes sure MS will not want to replace it?

if it's still under warranty they have to replace it if it's as hardware/software failure...

as long as the box is un-opened and there appears to be no forced entry or externally damaged you should be good.

What's the towel trick?
