Arcade Fighting

Is it me or are all the older generation fighting games much harder than the newer ones to defeat? (example; sf2 darkstalkers, mortal kombat. as opposed to tekken5 marvel vs capcom etc.)
I played Sf2 recently and didnt make it past lv 2 wth!!! i recall when i was younger i used to shamsh that game and now its impossible to even get to the boss, as opposed to KOF the game i play atm  i usualy get to the boss on a dollar?
