Freeware

So how many of you have actually considered making freeware (or at least shareware) games?

What are some of your ideas (don't give away everything, a genre is enough)?

I'd love to make a 3rd person shooter. The only reason I wouldn't make it retail is that then I'd have to worry about piracy. The problem with freeware/shareware is that any game is immediately looked upon as "casual," and not as a serious game.
