It is not the games that are to blame, it is the parent's fault for blindly buying the game for their kids without learning about them.
Even my parents blindly bought me video games as a child, I used to play games like Duke Nukem 3D, GTA, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, you name it. Despite that, I have never gotten into a fight at school before. In fact, I think of myself as a pretty mellow person and have never felt the urge to kill anybody before.

Video games age certificates just need to be policed as strictly as films. i got ID'd for Bioshock and im in my 20's and that was fine. parents that blame games like GTA and Manhunt for their kids behavior need to be shot, 18 means 18 kids :) unless the kids are at a mature enough mental age.

I think violent video games should be used to TEACH kids nonviolence and not to use the media as a source of influence. Those lessons are sorely needed in today's world.

I honestly don't think that children playing violent video games really negatively affects them. There are far worse things which do have tangible effects on children, like abusive uncaring parents or bullying or poverty, violent video games are FUN. They didn't affect me, or anyone I know or have ever seen in any way apart from being fun.

it's been statistically shown that there isn't enough evidence to prove the correlation between violent video games and actual violence. Yeah Columbine played Doom, didn't every kid when it came out?
Any child who "turns violent" from a video game can't have their parents go, "GTA made my kid take my car and hit three pedestrians." which is what they say
1. If it's your kid, they're under 18 there is a warning system set up by ESRB that they shouldn't be playing it if they're under 18.

Violent games are not to blame.
The downfalls of society, such as lack of discipline and guidance, along with the needs that come from labeling people and capitalism, are the true causes for kids doing stupid shit, period. Parents are not telling their children what is right and wrong, seeing how they expect some puppet show to teach all of that. Most authority figures will be like "you wear chains, your up to something" and other such condescending pressures. The children are often ill treated for not having money and sometimes even told "you need to contribute to society". Even a child who cleans up litter in the local park just because he wants the local park clean is considered to be "contributing to society" unless he is paying something.
Now, add all of that to the already present trials of adolescence, such as peer pressure and constant body changes, and you have a volatile concoction waiting to explode.
Sometimes, it isn't even all of this. It may be something else thrown in there by the very society that fails to help the youth. It can also be some sort of psychological disorder. I am not saying that a schitzophrenic will kill someone, but a passive schitzo who is on government drugs have killed plenty of times before.
Seriously, stuff like the VAtech shootings would have been avoided if the dude wasn't on government drugs, which dumbed down his perception of reality.
For every ONE instance I here of a government drug doing good, I can recall MANY more instances where the government drug caused large scale harm.
The parents who complain about violent video games are the same ones who ignore the fact that they are buying their child a "M" rated game.

If you're simple minded enough to allow a video game to somehow make you kill people in reality, then you're also simple minded enough to allow other forms of entertainment such as film and music to do the same. Rap & HipHop started this gangster culture and I think the wannabe street thugs out there are causing a lot more violence than gamers. Why aren't we banning rap music? Why aren't we banning violent films? Because video games are the perfect scape goat thanks to the media who seem to love kicking shit in our faces.
