When BioShock released with that SecuROM bullshit, it has become PAINFULLY obvious that PC devs are no longer focusing on PC gamers and would rather develop for consoles where games are more difficult to pirate, thus granting larger profits.
The only thing PC gaming has left going for it is:
1. Mods.
2. Still the MMORPG king.
3. Free online play.
The game mod scene is a shadow of what it used to be. Free online play is slowly being eradicated with the introduction of LIVE for Windows. You don't need DX10 to play World of WarCraft.
On top of that, Nintendo has really struck a cord with the Wiimote. When Next-gen consoles roll in Wii2, the next Xbox, and PS4(if they survive PS3), they will ALL feature some new motion-sensing high-tech controller while PCs will still be using mouse+keyboard. PC games will seem really shitty compared to games on next-gen consoles because they will lack all the nice control tech next-gen consoles will have.

Don't bother building a Vista DX10 gaming box. There's really no point to do so unless you need a Vista compatible PC for work/school and even then you don't need a gaming rig for that.
In other words, go out and buy a console; a Wii(if you can find one) or a XBox360 if you want to replace your gaming rig because that's where all the action is gonna be for the foreseeable future.

PC gaming is far from irrelevant. Pc games have been around longer and will be around long after console games, for the simple reason that the moment the ps4 or new xbox come out, the older versions are obsolete, and people have to shell out thousands of dollars to keep up to date. I have a console, and never use it. All my attention is focused on my pc and the hundreds of titles ive purchased for it with the money ive saved by NOT buying consoles. There are more and better pc titles on the shelves at lower prices than any individual console. And RTS games? dont get me started...

OPs post is funny, because there was a working pirated version of bioshock for the 360 the day it was released.
Consoles are about as easy to pirate as computers. Just throw a chip into them.
I'm still waiting for Linux drivers that can take advantage of the PS3's hardware. Then I load up Cedega, and enjoy myself.

bioshock on the 360 sucks cock. its water effects look shitty because half of the decent tools to make it look right only work in DX10, which neither the 360, PS3 or Wii is capable of running (their hardware is physically incompatible with some of the high-end processes the unreal 3 engine can use - even though the first game in it was on the 360, the engine itself was developed primarily for PC).
Also, FPS's in general are way too easy (read:boring) on consoles. No fucking skill whatsoever since with those piece of shit controllers they have to put in an autoaim feature.
I can even play every PSone, PS2 and XBox 1 title (and all the half decent games from the cartridge eras, and every goddam arcade game in history....) on my rig thanks to console BIOS rom images and the wonders of emulation coupled with hardware modded dualshock and a PC edition 360 controller. And it's only a matter of time until this extends to what few truly worthwhile games are still console exclusives on the latest generation (can someone say Gears of War with 5 new levels and a graphics tweak?)
...But all you console cunts keep on playing Halo 2 against severely retarded fratboys. I'm sure it's enjoyable at *some* level.

That would be unworkable, and M$ knows it. Look how long it took for people to turn Vista only Halo2 PC into something runnable on XP using a custom API that gets bolted into the game. You can't regulate PC user behaviour in that way like on consoles, because it is all to easy to spoof the program (O Hay XLink Kai, no rly my friends in guatemala have their PSP's and DS's riiight beside me). Also, it is legally unjustifiable because while the console companies have to maintain servers to allow their online play, incurring expenses, there is no such cost to them with PCs which deal with it point to point.
