Honkey was originally used as an insult to foreigners.  It then got warped over the years into a insult to whites.

And yet, other derogatives never was towards a race until later.  Nigger was just another word for idiot, Nappy was just another word for dirty or hairy, Wannabe was just another word for charlaton.  Though, the last change was rather recent by Al Sharpton.
