Why do people like halo?

Seriously, What's so good about halo? in my view it's the most overrated game in existince.

Halo was being developed as an FPS with strategic RTS elements much like Tribes, generating enormous hype before being bought out by Microsoft and turned into a straight FPS.  When the game was released, no one realized it was a bait and switch, and despite the change fans continued generating hype so they could gain approval by their friends.

Kids that grew up playing consoles couldn't experience the true joy of a PC FPS. So since Halo being the first FPS for every console owner, they think it is "the shit" and "best evar".

I think most people don't like Halo, but its one of the most publicize video game since its from Microsoft now. You can hear about it on tv not only over the internet like most other video games. So 12-13 yo boy think its a cool grown up game and buy the game becasue of that.

The same reason why we do like other games, they find the game fun and enjoyable. I don't like Halo simply because I am not a SHOOTAN fan, but fortunately for me I am sane enough to not turn "I don't like Halo" into "GAYLO SUXX RARGHBRAGLFGHRBGH" like some of the people in /v/ do.

I like Halo. Not the best game, and I admit its overrated, but its still enjoyable if you're playing with friends.

Halo was pretty much just the first FPS to come out for the Xbox, making it a hit with a good story line.  However, when Halo2 came out it 'evolved' the basic FPS and rose all FPS expectations.  With Halo3, the game will have graphics the like of which have barely been seen outside of a cutscene, and become more of a leveled playing field.  Alot of people hated Halo 2 because of its gay gameplay system, if you shot first you generally won and Battle Rifle dominioned over everything.  With the new game coming out they hope to change that with the use of bubble shields, better damage system, and more ways to strategize entry/exit points.

Oh yes...Halo 3 wilth lag...Expect loading screens, the hoards of which you have only seen outside of a cutseen...Phear loading screens...

Halo 2 was made for the original Xbox. Halo 3 is coming out for the 360. Halo 2 never had any lag problems, and the Xbox only has 64MB of RAM. The 360 has 512MB total (CPU & VGA). I doubt Halo 3 will have any lag.

Halo is for people who have never played an FPS on a PC.

Halo is on Xbox and in some areas, Xbox is considered god.  Halo is the first decent FPS on Xbox, making Halo the greatest game ever in those peoples eyes.

When people bought their Xbox, they needed something to play, thus Halo.  Or, after buying Halo, they needed to buy an Xbox.

I don't know, halo isn't that fun from what I've played. Which was only one level. But multiplayer ROCKS.

HAlo rules the multiplayer world. If only the Wii would step up with it's wifi.

i have played halo online and its full of geeks fapping while they play

halo had a good campaign and if you have played it you cannot deny it that. then the second game spared the campaign somewhat but excelled in the multiplayer modes. since the hype and the hours of playing multiplayer lan games that everyone did with the original halo, the whole series is and will continue to be a sucess with its devout fanboy following.
