according to this anouncement, donators and those that helped out in the project gets to download it now. While it's incomplete, it's basically at 99.X % so it's close enough to be played. Now if only someone that has the patch leaks it out.

Well, few things I need to discuss again.
1. If you do not wish to recieve emails from us again, just add noreply@curse-x.com to your block list as this will be the only email
we use to send out Curse-X info.
2. For those curious about what was deleted in the 2 news about the new
section, what was said and still is in effect is, those who fill out
stuff in that section (Make sure to read the info post!) will get
subscriber status for helping Curse-X. The fill out forms require a bit more
typing, but get you in alot more easier for filling them out.
3. The main reason we had to add that section is because it costs alot
to host Curse-X due to the ammount of people that log in, I've tried
switching hosts, they always kick me off, so yeah, participating in that
new section and following the guidelines in there, will get you
subscriber status, when you do enough that we notice you. Right now theres not
alot of threads so now is the best chance for us to notice you :).
4. There will be a new program along with a BOTS ct and Legend of Ares
ct this week, now that the Anime site is going on a dedicated server I
can focus more time on Curse-X, no more stress trying to find a good
anime server :P

I got news for you guys. Konami owns the rights to Ys distribution in North America via an exclusivity agreement with Falcom. So in actuality, the patch is completely illegal and selling it is even more so. Most romhackers avoid fan translations of products known to be held legally by American companies or companies doing business directly in America. In Konami's case, both are true. Not only do they publish and distribute games in the US and Canada, they also have a business entity incorporated in California.
What does all of this mean? Nightwolve is being more of a douchebag than many of you have previously thought.

First off... Deuce, you seem to be a very intelligent and logical individual, I'm very sorry for you that you have to (or have chosen to) work with such an immature imbecile. Anyway, back to the real point;
There's no principle at work here. No "morality." This is all about you getting something for nothing. Pure and simple.
Yes, actually there is "morality" in this situation, as someone has said before. Morality and legality are NOT the same thing. Yes, it's illegal to pirate the game if you did, and it's also illegal to translate or reverse engineer it if you don't hold the copyright to it. Nobody said it wasn't. Nobody said they cared about the legality of either action or lack thereof, save Nightwolf(wolve, whatever the hell,) who is a pot calling a kettle black when he speaks of "warez butt-pirates" or whatever other petty pseudo-insult he's tossing around these days.
Nobody said that he was wrong for translating it. I didn't, at least. However, he is stating that he feels stupid for releasing such a "professional(...?) and valuable(.........?)" patch for free. That in itself tells you that he is seriously considering charging for it, and that the "$5 early access" is nothing but a very thinly veiled farce.
It's not professional. It's a fan translation. It's not (monetarily) valuable, it is worth nothing but jail time and fines according to the government, though I'm not disagreeing that it may be quite costly. Nobody that I know of said that it was NOT professional or valuable, however. In fact, if you recall, this all started when I made a comment on his website about how including malicious software in the patch to "fry your HDD instead of getting you thrown in jail," coding it to begin with, or even making such petty threats was pointless, immature and morally wrong in any way you could define the word moral. I also made comments disagreeing with his statements saying that "anyone who didn't pay for his patch pirated the game, anyways." Of course, that got me IP banned from his website, my comments removed, a huge wall of text as a response posted to the deleted conversation (gee, I WONDER why he deleted it?) and my email posted on his front page. Quite mature and "professional!"
Legality and morality are completely different. No, it's not legal to pirate software, some would say it's immoral as well, I personally don't care about what someone else does but if they assume I pirated it simply because I don't buy their fan translation... nothing more needs to be said about that. No, it's not legal to make a fan translation, but that is not immoral in my opinion. It IS immoral to profit off of Falcom's game, I'd say that was an opinion, but I believe it's a fact.
He is not accepting donations for his patch. He is selling it. Flat out. I don't know how you can argue that. 24 hours has turned into 24 months, almost.

I just scanned his front page, and the words "warez" and "butt pirate" appear no less than 8 times. Now, I understand that I could just be the "better man" and pass up the chance to speak my mind on this as I have and am on these forums, but... honestly, how can you take someone seriously in the least bit, when they use those words as an every day staple of their vocabulary?
I'm glad you're doing the translation and he's the chimp with the wrench behind the scenes, Deuce. It would be an utter disgrace if "lol warez butt-pirates" made it into the script... which, if it was in Nightwolf's hands, I'm almost completely sure that it would. If you disagree, take into account that he's not written one single paragraph regarding the matter without using those poor excuses for words, and he really has not attempted to make any point besides that either... the petty attempts at insults they are. Nobody could sum up the arrogance, ignorance, and well... overall incompetence better than he did in his last statements. Sure, he knows how to code obviously, he's not incompetent in that. The fact remains that he doesn't know how to (or refuses to, which is worse), write an entire post without including the word "butt-pirate," though, and obviously has delusions of grandeur about how he's so professional/important/amazed and astonished with himself and deserves to be paid for his hobby, however... which makes him a pretty incompetent human being in general, sad to say.
Personally, even though many of his donators emailed me the patch as soon as he posted my email address on his webpage, I refuse to use it because of the way he's acting about the matter. Ok, again : All the translations he has done so far, including YsF, are FREE.
Oh, that's why we can download the YsF translation from his site without donating, right.
He said future translations may be sharewares, but he can change his mind since they're not done yet.

I myself never said the beta patch should have been leaked, however, as soon as my email was posted I had donators emailing me asking if I wanted the patch. Honestly, I really don't think it matters about perfection as much as how much money he will garner from it in the long run. The only changes between the leaked version and the final version will be the readme, and whatever other "added surprises" he decides to include, anyways. It's been "99.5% complete" for months. Still it ain't public. I WONDER why.
Now just wait a few more days before the final release if you like to play the game with the most up-to-date patch, and don't worry about malware or other stuff, because you won't get that kind of program with NightWolve. I, myself, have played through the game in Japanese and haven't even touched it since someone sent me the patch.
