Maribato problems

I installed the upgraded pack and patch for maribato, but now the game starts whenever i start it.  svw32.exe is listed in the error message, and i'm running in win 98 compatible mode.  any ideas on how to fix?

do you also have the sytem set to use Japanese in non-unicode programs?
