What MMORPG to Play

Name: Anonymous 2006-11-14 18:48

I need to start a new MMORPG, which one is the best. So far FFIX is sounding the most fun.

None, you shouldn't play MMOs.

They're evil, eat your money, your time, and quite possibly any semblience of a life you may (or may not) have.

FFXI sucks ass, stay away from it.  Time consuming and the "rewards" for your efforts suck.

FFXI rocks.

FFXI sucks balls period. It contributes to the stagnation of the mmorpgs genre and it proves how little a company can learn from it's mistakes.

I would suggest not playing mmos

I currently play Phantasy Star Universe and sometimes Lineage II. Use to play WoW but it was boring and I use to play FFXI but that was boring and slow. RF Online was ok, but wasn't for me. Guild Wars was...ok.

You mean MMORPGs sucks balls period.

Because when you're serving 600,000 (XI) to 6,000,000 (WoW), there's no fucking way you can keep everyone happy. It just isn't possible, and you'd know that if you've ever had to deal with any number of customers at all.

So, companies that runs them picks the path that'd result in the least amount of bitching from its player base. If that happens to be not in your favor... tough shit? You aren't seriously expecting them to totally revamp the game becauase your friends can't claim a NM or can't win a particular fight, are you?

"Learning from their mistakes" would only apply to the next MMO they create, not XI. Tweaks and adjustments can only do so much. The basic framework is not going to be changed, or they'd die a horrorible flaming death like the dumbasses who revamped "City of Heros" ... losing 60% of your playerbase overnight after a patch is bad for business.

The only major gripe I have against XI is the forced-team play aspect of it.

What's the matter? Can't pretend to be civil long enough to get anything accomplished in a MMO?

You're in for one heck of a rude awakening when you hit the work force.

There are three problems that arise from WoW: the time it requires to do anything "important" is astounding, it gives people a false sense of accomplishment, and when you're a leader, and get wrapped up in it, no matter how much you care or want people to care, you're doing the wrong thing.

First off, let's go back to the time it takes to accomplish anything in the game. To really be successful, you need to at least invest 12 hours a week, and that is bare minimum. From a leadership perspective, that 12 hours would be laughed at. That's the guy who comes unprepared to raid and has to leave half way through because he has work in the morning or is going out or some other thing that shows "lack of commitment". To the extreme there is the guildie who is always on and ready to help. The "good guildie" who plays about 10 hours a day and seven days a week. Yes, that's almost two full-time jobs. Funny, no one ever asks any questions, though.

Hey jerkwad, did you really think that no one would reconize a blatently ripped section from that guy's WoW blog?

Oh no wait, nevermind. Of course you're the only person who has seen that posting.

Make sure to do that with all of your papers you turn in for school. Your teachers'll just LOVE it and they're sure to have much to say to you and your parents.
