And releasing an expansion every two to three years at $30+ a pop isn't "a lot"?

And as stated, quality is subjective.  I find Grandia a fun game.  Yes, it's linear and story-driven.  That doesn't make the game bad if the story is good.  And the stories in each game are excellent.  And while some games mentioned have not have gone on to be block-busters in America, that by no means make them poor games.  And most of those games are critically acclaimed--in America.

And since you're so lazy, I'll give you a head start on J-RPG's that don't have random battles:  Lunar, Grandia, Chrono Trigger, .hack, Valkyrie Profile.  You know, just to pull five off the top of my head.

I wonder why you're so determined to state Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest as the best of the J-RPG market?  Certainly they are popular, but does popularity and notoriety automatically make a game great?  If so, I have a boat-load of Atari 2600 E.T. games to sell you...

And you’re over-reaching.  I never called all American RPG players furries.  I called you a furry.  Learn to differentiate.

Oh, and to the grammar nazis: I am _so_ sorry.  juvenile; stagnant.

Face it: You don't have a case, nor a leg to stand on.  Japanese RPG's offer far greater variety than American RPG's ever have.  There is literally a game for every taste.  And that is what the OP is asking for.
