$600 really isn't that much. Yes it's over priced, but when you think of the hours of entertainment you get out of it compared to a vacation, sports car, etc, it's not bad at all.

Hey, I make a shitload of money on Salary (funkiiest salary you ever saw too...the pay rate is salary but the benefits are all wage-style) PLUS several hundred extra per month in commissions, extra pay, bonuses, etc (all WITHOUT working overtime---yup, salary wages PLUS optional overtime--A Winner is Me), and *I* think the PS3 is too expensive. Breaking News: if you make 60-90k per year $600 is nothing. While we're at it, a related PROTIP: don't drop out of high school, study something worthwile, enjoy life and consumer goods.
Also, you're not just paying for a video game console these days. As for PS3, you're getting a Blu-Ray DVD Player (stand alone will cost 1200USD when released), and a Cell Processor (it's limits are yet unknown).
And honestly, 600 dollars isn't that expensive. Just save up a little and stop buying junk food. If you really think 600 dollars is a lot, boy, I wonder what you're going to say when you're going to buy a house or a car for yourself.
If you're really going to complain about the price, why not just wait a little. Consoles always goes down in price, like any other electronics.
FYI: Sony is still loosing money per console, just like any other consoles. Every company that makes consoles loose money on the consoles. They make their money on concoles usually 4 years later (break even), but they get most of the profits from game developers.

$600 is a bit steep, but you have to consider that you'll only pay for it once. And like >>18 mentioned, it's Blu-Ray DVD player as well.
So, if you want a PS3, just find a way to save some money. Stop wasting money on unecessary things like soda, fast food, and such and save up. And before you know it, you'll have a good portion of your PS3 paid for.
Still, I'll probably buy a Revolution (I refuse to call it 'wii') before I get a ps3.
