PS1 memory card

My ps1 has somehow screwed both my memory cards that were sitting quietly in their slots. Some games just see them as being empty, time crisis says they aren't formatted.

Before i go klingon on the cards, I seem to recall there was some sort of code you would execute in the console menu to retrieve saves you'd just erased, but i can't find it anywhere. Halp plz.

Check the memory cards on a different PS1, if you haven't isolated the problem to being on the cards and not the console.

get a ps3....oh wait nm it supports games but not the cards

to retrieve erased data, try an XPLORER cartridge, it has modes to do such things, and card memory explorers.
