"spelt" is a bastard child of the proper word, "spelled". "spelt" only exists because of people spelling things the way they sound, and the average person says "spelled" as "spelt" because it's easier. but hey, pretty much none of this entire thread has absolutely nothing to do with video games, so why are any of us even bothering?

For the record, the word "spelt" is perfectly correct in the UK and Australia. In fact the Oxford English Dictionary uses this word (in preference to "spelled")all over its website, which I think proves that it is not an anachronism.
