it sounds like it's gonna be really weak relative to the japanese releases, but hopefully it'll at least serve as a good introduction for the new player. despite a small effort, the japanese releases are TERRIBLE at this; they need to make the beginner shit even easier than it already is if they honestly hope to catch someone who has never touched a beatmania controller. for these people, failing 5.1.1. beginner over and over again is not a good introductory experience. the songlist being so short is really dumb, though. they have hundreds of songs to draw on, here.

Konami knows IIDX is hard for beginners, and it's getting harder in every release. Why they don't make it easier, we don't know. Pop'n Music is more beginner friendly though.

Looks like Konami wants to feed the high elite of the bemani players with 2DX, not the beginners.

And beatmania US is made just for money. It's probably going to be easier.

Why should they make the IIDX series easier?

If you want to learn the game, go pick up the first dual disc release of Beatmania on the PS1.  Go learn on the Cat song or papaya bossa.

As for the American release, as long as the controller  is decent, I'll probably be picking it up for the sims.

the base game is still intact and fun, but konami US took the japanese version, gave it a bad songlist and made it ugly. critics rating it low have good reason to do so. that said, it's easily the cheapest way to get into the game and i would recommend buying the shitpile anyway
