In MMORPGs people perform boring, meaningless tasks in pursuit of inane goals.
- If the tasks weren't boring, it'd be a game.
- If the tasks weren't meaningless, it'd be an organization.
- If the goals weren't inane, it'd be a project.
Yet I feel the urge to recommend this endeavor to people whose life is without meaning and who live on regardless in this society - such as the retired and the mentally handicapped. These focus groups are prone to bouts of depression (and worse: aggression) when the realization of their purposelessness creeps into their subconscious.
This is where World of Warcraft can help! It provides the first practical solution to structural unemployment. Providing as its core feature the illusion of meaning, it is a big fat pacifier for the retarded masses. Nigger orcs and cracker elves stand side by side in this war to keep their world clean of free speech, creativity and intelligence. I for one welcome our new Blizzard overlords!
