This has been posted in 4chan /v/, but for future reference this thread is here as well.
With MGS3:Subsistence less than a month away, I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting pretty excited. I'd like to get a bunch of 4channers together for an MGO group or clan or something, so look in the future for something along those lines. I'll keep updating here or on 4chan /v/ if I develop a website or anything. I'd like to have divisions of players (four players per division) and if any competitive gaming comes to MGO, we could all organize quickly and compete in multiple events. If not fame and fortune, we could at least play against each other for fun.
Leave comments and ideas here or email me at bigopinion@gmail.com if you're interested.

I'm getting this game on release day and know my friend is too, so I'd be happy to join you in some tactical espionage action.

Maybe we should agree on a Server, Room name, and Password, so anyone who wants to make a 4chan room can make one.
Feel free to leave suggestions!

I'll join. I need to pick up the game, and set the thing up first.

What exactly is required for online gameplay? This is the first real game that has me interested enough to fork out the money for the network add on, but what else would a 1st gen PS2 owner need? Hard drive, headset, keyboard, etc?

I just have the game and the adaptor. I works fine but I can't communicate with my moron allies. I will prolly have to go pick a headset up.

HDD support is nonexistent. Headset and keyboard both supported.

just about any USB keyboard works with PS2.

I've never played an online game with a headset, but would it be recommended to get both that _and_ a keyboard for communicating with other players?
I guess I'll try to sell my old-model PS2 again for a decent price and grab a newer slim one with built-in Ethernet.

Why not just grab the network adapter for the older PS2? It's only like $30 any more isn't it?

If anyone is interested in playing tonight let me know. I'm thinking if we have a couple of people interested I can host a game at 6PM EST.

Sounds good, I'll try to make it but I may be out.
Username on MGO is SuperCOPower if you guys want to start adding 4channers to your friends list.
And for anyone asking questions, having a headset is much more practical than a keyboard, so if you don't have either, don't worry so much about the keyboard. Good for passwords/usernames, but that's about it. You can still communicate with radio commands and not have a headset, but a headset is good for communication.

Okay, so you can't put in names on the Friend List manually. You have to go through lobbies and press start > search for user if you want to find ANYONE.
I usually play on Solid or Liquid if anyone wants to look me up. Most active after 5PM EST.

I've played on and off with some guy named "The Apathy", I lol'ed. But yeah, THE SuperCOPower. I'm on Snake right now, usually play on Snake and Liquid.
I can't make a room yet, but now that I know someone on 4chan *can*, we need to make a game on Ninja or Otacon server to make it easier to locate. We've got to organize!!

are the different server names indicative of anything in particular or are they all there as general servers to share the load?
also, is it just me or does mowing people down again and again with the AK47 every round get old real fast? it seems like the weapons arn't properly tweaked to give them any advantages/drawbacks in a competitive online setting.

general servers for the most part. as for the weapons, each has their uses and seem balanced. I've certainly seen each of them used to their full potential. Sorry if this sounds like shit ya already know, just my opinion on them:
scorpion is the bitch weapon, stick-to aiming for less damage per bullet. if you haven't figured out the aiming system yet, go for it. if you have, steer clear.
shotgun's for getting easy kills in tight spaces with little life lost. Really good in the killhouses, pillbox, and mountaintop(because of the foxholes). a close shot will knockdown, next shot kills. god i hate shotguns.
the xm and ak are multi-purpose, but advantage to the xm is the better sight for sniping and the silencer(it's a bitch to find what direction someone's firing from with a silencer on), whereas ak holds more rounds. i don't know if ak does more damage per bullet than xm, possible though. i stick to the ak for firefights and just make due for headshots.
sniper rifle's easy, you lose total mobility for massive damage even without a headshot. my experience is 2 bullets = instadeath. Just take the time to aim, even if they're running right for you shooting
As for the mosin nagant...more of a sneaking mission weapon for snake, so you don't give your position away when you snipe someone. in deathmatches and stuff, um... i dunno, lol.
handguns are simply for cqc->headshot or as a last resort in mid-range firefights
and the knife is for creative 1hit kills in controllable fights. I would rather have a knife equipped than the handgun actually. if you're going to cqc anyway, might as well finish it quick.
i've personally seen more xm16e1's than ak47's. stupid silencer.

How do the dramatic cutscenes about the morals of nuclear warfare and virtual reality affecting a group of friends and enemies with backstories told in monologues suggesting homosexual undertones fit in to all this?
