Why do people enjoy level grinding MMORPGs? They level up, they collect better equpment, but there is no end to the game?

Because they have nothing better to do. That and they're dumbasses.

they're dumbasses.
Sums it up nicely.
Instead of playing a game with a satisfactory ending, they treadmill. Instead of going on and getting a life, they chat with other losers in-game. Instead of doing something productive (even a hobby!), they're all gaga over a piece of virtual armor.
MMORPG are mind-numbingly dull.

I'd only play if I was paid by the hour.

I'd only play for pay if I was going to end up on the street otherwise.
I feel like I'm becoming stupid every time I touch an MMO. It's not worth the $$$.

The game presents you with a chance to be the best on the server, after seeing countless players at higher levels, and with enough months spent on killing things you too can become the hero, who is powerful enough to withstand any threat. Since nothing is a challenge at the very highest level, you can finally get on to other things in the game world besides finding stat enhancing loot. You could, uh, roleplay. Or go back to more loot.

Agreed.
Whenever people are new to games, there is the guy who is the best. They aspire to be as strong as that guy or better.

They aspire to be as strong as that guy or better.
Except that guy is a loser in his parent's basement. He has no life, never gets out, is a failure at school, probably very fat, and definitely unfit. In short, MMO players are aspiring to be complete failures.

mmorpgs are usually enjoyed by people who really suck at everything else because mmorpgs in their current state can be(are) played by monkeys and are really retard friendly (press butan- have the game do things for me)
all mmos do is replace the real life grind of school and or work but have guaranteed advancement for time invested solving a big complaint for some people with reality
you dont need levels, you dont need classes, you dont need exp or monsters grazing about like cattle
mmorpgs are not games, they're walking simulators for wasting time
you dont have to be level 1 a tiny little spec in the world where the sole purpose of the game is just to be a character simulator where the whole game is just going from 1 to 60.
give me a character that I can play how I want, give me a design concept where I can choose to do what I want, give me a game. I dont want the short sightedness and tunnel vision of the games developers to decide for me how I have to do everything

Lineage 2 is pretty much made for asshats and drama. Endless grinds and unavoidable pk pretty much leaves nothing but hardcore players who get their nipples hard when they get new equipment. That, and an army of Chinese farmers.
