Half-Life 2 and keyboard/mouse lockups

Name: Knifa 2005-12-07 12:11

Has anyone had any problems with HL2 while playing, about every few minutes or so, the keyboard and mouse will lock up for about 2-5 seconds? (and keep you moving in the same direction you were going, combine aggro, anyone?)

Not sure what's causing it, my system specs are fine enough to run it at everything up high at about 80fps.

what kind of keyboard/mouse are you using, first of all?

I have this same problem. I use Compaq keyboard SDM4700P with USB connector and Microsoft Standard Wireless Optical mouse. Changing the mouse to a regular Logitech mouse didnt't help.

I use a Logitech MX1000 and a Logitech G15 Keyboard, the mouse reciever is pluged into the USB ports on the USB keyboard (If that would make a diffrence.)

That makes ALL the difference. Use wired input devices!

I have the same problem and not only with HL2 but also UT2004 and other newer games, but COD2 runs just fine. In more intensive games like the HL2 Lost Coast this happens more often. Lowering resolution helps a bit it seems, but the problem is still there.

To clarify, the game it self doesn't lock up, everything keeps running, I just can't control it (mouse and keyboard locks up) for 2-5 seconds every couple of minutes (could be every minute or ever 30 min depending on the game/map/location).

I don’t think that this is related to the mouse/keyboard it self but some other hardware(?) issue. Could it be the chipset (nForce 4 Ultra) overheating or something? Other then that I don't have an idea why this could be happening.

I’m running Windows XP SP2 and have reinstalled it a couple of times but the problem still remains. There is no antivirus involved as I usually don’t have any installed.

Mouse: Logitech MX510
Keyboard: Logitech UltraX
System: ASUS A8N-E, 3200+ Venice, 1GB RAM, Radeon X800 XT

You might try getting a soundcard.  Sometimes PCs with sound card built into the motherboard with alot of stuff going on, can cause that.

Don't change these.
