Revolution. I've sworn off of Sony for the forseeable future after their DRM rootkit BS, and I don't need an XBox when I already have a computer.
I don't know which will dominate the market. It'll be interesting to see who wins this generation.

I will be purchasing a PS3 simply because Sony so far has come up with the brilliant idea of backwards compatability, something which Nintendo has a tough time understanding.

maybe if u keep up w/ the news lately, backwards compatability is now greatly questionable for PS3, not to mention that anti-used game thingie
Isn't the revolution supposed to have backcompat with the Cube? I thought it was, 'cuz I remember thinking Nintendo realized they dropped the ball on that one.

I've actually also sworn of Sony for much the same reasoning, although it goes a little deeper. I'd never buy anything Microsoft, so there goes the XBox.
Revolution looks pretty good, so I suppose that's what I'm getting. Nintendo has served me well over the years (or should I say I've served them lolol).

Nintendo - Still discussing the whole downloadable games from NES to the N64, and there are confirmed ports in the back (possibly front?) of the console allowing for up to 4 GCN controllers. Rev controller looks interesting, could possibly be another gimmick...but I bought the DS and enjoy it so far.
Sony - I heard somewhere that full backwards compatability was included at launch and had been confirmed. Controller: Haven't tested it yet, looks like it's simply a more stylized PS2 controller. If it's made with the PSP buttons and Dualshock sticks, that'll suck.
XBox (accurately named XBrick) - rumors of MS discontinuing XBox games and moving directly to the 360 have been mentioned. Backwards compatability will only be available for some games (think: Xbox Greatest Hits), and you're screwed otherwise. Controller: Tested it at a local retailer today, it's VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. The shoulder buttons require a lot of index-finger stretching, the stick is oddly placed, it's just an uncomfortable layout.
I'm buying PS3, possibly Revolution if it has a bunch of interesting games on it, and I could download Mario Paint, Mischief Makers, and a few others. PS3 looks like the top contender based on that.

sorry anon. #8, PS3 back.com. is officially not confirmed and practically unknowable.
i later read somewhere that it fails alot of PS2 games, but can't remember where
I have a quesiton, if both X360 and PS3 run on linus, and with keyboard and stuff for them, does that mean they can run word processing program like MS word??
Can they? Yes. Will they? Not with DRM, they won't. I especially like the branch of "Trusted Computing" that bricks hardware which has violated the DRM. That's cool. Does anyone know if that exists in any commercial hardware, yet?

I'm a bit of an XBOX fanboy, myself.
Was really looking foward to the 360, but now I'm starting to have second thoughts. Might pass the 360 completely, and buy a PS3 once the price goes down a little (assuming it is indeed $300+, I'm a bit in the dark regarding console pricing). Not really interested in the Revolution at all.
To be honest, neither the 360 nor the PS3 are very impressive in my eyes (plus I'm still pissed off that my brand new, first run PS2 died after barely a year), but I'll need to buy one or the other if I want to stay up to date with console games.
The death of your PS2 after such a short period is pretty much par for the course when it comes to Sony. Don't expect more than a year or two out of your PS3, either.
what in x360 disappoint you? i rly want to know. on the contrary i want to support PS3 but x360 sounds so much better w/ all the crap that comes with it. and my biggest concern is if PS3 is really giving such a hard time to programmers, is it logical to worry about the # of games that come out?

Not disappointed with it per se (I'll reserve definite judgement until I've actually managed to demo one), just some general feelings of apprehension based on their marketing and shtuff... But on the other hand, I'm not really interested in LOL SUPAR ROBAWT WARZ and similar games, so I probabably won't miss out on much by getting the X360 over the PS3.
As for the death of my PS2... Main reason I'm still bitter about that is shortly before it died I lost my job, and couldn't afford the one hundred dollars it would've required to get it repaired.
At any rate, it'll be quite some time before I purchase either console (neither of them have anything particularly eye catching in their lists of launch titles, in my opinion), so by the time I actually get around to it I'll hopefully be able to make a semi-informed decision and won't regret my purchase.
[/incoherent rambling]
Personally, I prefer games in a language I can actually understand (read: ENGLISH).

I find it amazing how people can still not know everything about the consoles and yet form opinions on which they will get (>>4,>>8). Rev is fully backwards compatible with GCN, and will also download games from N64, SNES, and NES. More backwards compatible than PS3. Also, Rev's GCN controller ports are on top of the system - see pictures of it at IGN or somewhere.

I'm gonna get the Rev and PS3, I think PS3 will dominate.
Possibly not, if it launches at the rumoured cost of $500+.

$500? Is that the latest figure? Geeeez.... I'd rather buy another 32" TV and still have $200 to spare.

I'll probably get them all eventually, when the cost is less. Probably try to pick up a revolution on launch though.

I'm getting ps3.
I think Nintendo has the most potential to dominate.

Getting a Rev, too poor for PS3 and I already demoed an XBOX360 only to be severly dissapointed ...
I think will make the most money but Sony will be the most "popular" I'm hoping to god that X360 flops so that MS can finally get it's dirty mitts off of my video games ;)

REV
maybe a ps3, if i have money.

...Five hundred dollars.
You mean USD right? Not Australian monopoly-money? Ugh... I don't even want to think about how long it'll take for them to drop in price before I'll be able to afford one without having to live on instant ramen for a few months.
Hopefully the X360 will overtake the PS3 in terms of third party support (LOL RLY LIKELY) so I won't have to gouge my wallet quite as hard.
Its times like this that I wish I was still a teenager living with my parents.

I never buy consoles, but if I did, it'd be a Revolution.
I don't care about zoomj faster graphics; it's the same shit, and I find it all boring. That controller that Nintendo is making is an entirely different story, however.
Whether developers use it is another question.

Only reason I bother with consoles is because of the games I like that probably won't get ported over to the PC any time soon (SoulCalibur, SSX, Burnout 3 Turbo Championship Edition Gold Alpha, so on).

PS3 is out of the question. It's just not worth it. If I ever want a more conventional gaming console, the 360 will work just fine, but I think I will stick with the Revolution for its whole hundreds of games by launch thing.

If I would get one, it would probably do a PS3. I every single person here would disagree with me, but the 360 and Revolution don't interest me.
Then again, I may get no new system. Too expensive for a student who ends up only playing like one console game a month.

I don't mean to second guess your opinion, but the reason we disagree is not because of dislike for the Sony brandname (at least for me), but because of features, such as the anti-used game feature.

Anonymous2005-11-17 9:27
its been proven the anti-used game feature will not be used in the ps3, came out in a press release.

also xbox 360/halo 3 will sadly never recreate the xbox and halo 1 atmosphere and I have left that stage of my life (ive tried going back but failed) The wonder is just gone from over exposure. NICE GOING MICROSOFT. OH well at least all the new games have legendary codeing.
