Phoenix Wright

Name: ALttP 2005-10-24 4:59

I think every forum has infinite space for a Phoenix Wright topic, so...

Seriously, buy it. It's funny, entertaining (if you are patient) and has a great story. Plus, if this sells, they'll be more inclined to sell the other three games of the series here.

Anyone here own the game, or any of the other games in the series?

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-24 8:21

I like that "if you are patient" bit.

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-24 16:37

I'D BUY IT IF I HAD A DS.

So it looks like i'm waiting till Christmas );

Name: ALttP 2005-10-24 17:09

Oh well, that's only about two months from now, so no worries.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-02 22:15

Played the first three in GBA. It's just incredible how the story keeps you glued for hours.

This series would work wonders on DS. Yelling 「異議あり!」/"Objection!" with the mic is just priceless. Porting the GBA cases is a good idea, but working on more cases that make full use of the DS capabilities would be awesome

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-06 8:59

Fags (read: Capcom) should bring over the GBA games.

Or make more DS ones `~`

Name: ALttP 2005-11-16 23:54

There's no way we will see a DS version. The most we will see is localizations of the games. The remake did poor in Japan, compared to the original Gyakuten Saiban (100,000 compared to 250,000). Although, it would be nice to see them add touch screen features for them, but allow them to be playable on the GBA (ie, Shantae and the Oracle Zeldas have added features when played on a GBA).

I'm actually thinking about getting a DS because of games like Phoenix Wright and the Surgery games. The PSP may be pretty, but nothing, I mean NOTHING, beats being able to yell "OBJECTION" into a microphone.

Name: ALttP 2005-11-17 2:09

Well, do me a favor and check Wal Mart first, to confirm if their claim that they did release the game there is true.

Perhaps because Japanese gamers had already played like, 80% of the game?
I don't see why Capcom expected Yomigaeru selling more than the first Gyakuten Saiban. I mean, the DS version is more like a port with neat extra features than a remake. Add the fact that it's a 'remake' of a recent game (original Gyakuten Saiban is from... 2001? I don't remember)

Name: ALttP 2005-11-19 2:18

Well, of course that's the reason, and why we won't see anymore remakes. Also, while a lot of the remaking was largely navigation, there was an entirely new episode (which was probably larger than the first three combined, at the very least).

They don't care how it sold in Japan. It wasn't even getting a Japanese release until gamers over there asked for it.
The DS remake was designed to sell in the west from the beginning, and by all indications it's doing so pretty well.

I thought they were producing Gyakuten Saiban 4 on DS. There were even some artwork with new characters, but no sign of Naruhodo/Wright and friends.

Name: ALttP 2005-12-12 3:15

Unfortunately, Phoenix Wright has only sold 9,555 copies in October. If it appears that they're flying off the shelves, it's because they understocked the game.

Additionally, the reason it sold poorly in Japan is because it was a remake, and Gyakuten Saiban 4 won't be hindered by the problem of GSDS.

Right now i'm on the second case (third day). Man this is getting tense :D

What was that Psycho thing in GS 2 & 3? It had something to do with that pendant thing...

Name: ALttP 2006-01-05 3:14

Psycho Lock, if I recall correctly, when "cross examining" someone outside of the court room (so to speak), and only comes up when you have to reveal evidence to unlock the Psycho Lock, and the right evidence will eventually unlock it. However, if you get it wrong, your health meter drops. Unlike the first game, you can get a Game Over outside of the court room, although I have not actually experienced it.

GAME OVER OUTSIDE THE COURTROOM?! TOTALLY RAD!

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-07 1:06

>>20

Quit making fun. It does sound somewhat rad. :(

Name: ALttP 2006-01-07 4:35

'Tis! Outside of the court room, it seemed like it was more looking around until you found a part that moved the game along. THis time, you're actually in danger of losing during the investigative portion of the game. Makes it a lot more difficult and interesting.

HOORAY
So what the hell is with Naruhodo/Phoenix's ex-girlfriend, besides the fact that she's fucking SCARY, MON?

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-16 15:08

Yanni Yogi! You're Yanni Yogi and I'm going to prove it!

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-21 8:44

>>24

Do you have decisive evidence to prove this, Mr. Wright?

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-21 11:53

TAKE THAT!!

... That's a live crab, Mr. Wright.

OBJECTION!!

The Prosecution requests that the Crab be cross-examined!  It may have been a witness.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-26 10:39

General, probably old question about the game since I never cared to look into it; I heard the localization changed a lot of the dialogue and "Americanized" it and changed the feel of it (you know, CRAZY WHAT?? Japanese humor into American humor) quite a bit.  I don't mean to sound like an "ANGRY WAP!!", I'm just curious.  Also, what's with the name Phoenix Wright? :|

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-26 11:01

>>29

Probably has something with the title of the last case, 'Rise from the ashes', since that's what a Phoenix is supposed to do after setting itself on fire.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-26 11:36

>>30
Oh, so it's the name of that specific game?  I was under the impression it was the name of the series, because I'd read about the Japanese version before.

I thought it might have to do with some sort of pun that the Japanese title may have had.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-26 11:50

Nevermind, the Japanese title doesn't seem to be a pun at all and is fairly straightforward, unless it's really vague.

Haha, sleep deprivation.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-31 0:48

>>29

All the names in the Japanese version are puns in Japanese, so when they made the western version, the renamed everyone to puns in English.

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-02 11:15

>>30

Close enough.

Actually, it's explained that "Phoenix" stands for his ability to turn reverse cases which were almost lost (as phoenix come back from its own ashes), while "Wright", like its Japanese counterpart "Naruhodo" is a pun ("Is that right, Wright?")

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-08 10:40

Loving this game.
Any news on the numbers this game sold?
Any news on a sequeal?  IGN stated something about another Phoenix Wright game for the states sometime in 2006 but it looks sketchy (TBA released date)

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-08 12:43

>>35 DS Phoenix Wright is a remake of the first GBA game. There are two more Gyakuten Saiban games on the GBA. Whether they come here or not, nobody knows. :\
