Hello!Nice to meet you.
I'm a Japanese.
Well...I have a question.
Why the Dragonquest (In America it called DragonWarrior) isn't popular in America?
DragonQuest is most popular RPG in Japan (than finalfantasy).
It's wonder for me.
WHY?
Could you tell me your thinking(opinion?)about it?
Sorry,Poor English.

Because DQ is from Enix and FF from Square..
Square just sucks. Thinking of Enix; Terranigma was also a VERY good title.

Because in America we tend to buy RPGs that have actually moved forward in some way since the 1980s rather than keeping the same shitty mechanics they had two decades ago and trying to hide it with anime art.
And I'm not just putting down JRPGs here, plenty of JRPGs have made progress. Just not fucking Dragon Quest.

You're replying to a post made in 2005. Ah, I miss those days... /v/ wasn't shitty back then. Okay, it was shitty, but in a way that was shitty to normalfags.
I really liked Dragon Warrior Monster 2: Cobi's Journey. It was one of my favorite games as a kid. Naturally, I also played DQM: Joker when it was released, and I also liked it, although it might not have been as good as Cobi's Journey. I am looking forward to getting a copy of DQM: Joker 2 soon.

Now I agree that it's the same basic fight mechanics for every single game it still hasn't been f***** up by trying to reinvent the wheel

Dragon Quest V for the DS happens to be my favorite DQ game and it is quite popular in the US.
I feel that Dragon Quest isn't very popular in the US because of how traditional it is. Personally I respect Dragon Quest for sticking to its original formula and style. But Americans might want more in an RPG. Dragon Quest plays like an old RPG game with traditional turn based combat, which many new gamers might not like. It's style might also be a factor, perhaps too cartoon-like or animation like, and childish as well. Many Americans like realistic and high tech graphics, not simple cartoons. Final Fantasy has good and sometime life-like graphics, which appeals to Americans.

final fantasy has become shit since FFX, Dragon Quest never backs down from the audience, the classic rpg style is far more appealing to me than the action rpg like FF's new titles

Posting in an ancient thread.
Dragon Quest IX was alright, I think people really enjoyed the gameboy color remakes of the NES games too.

You know, I never really got into DQ. I don't know why.
Reading this thread, I may actually go try it out. I miss old-fashioned JRPGs.
>>149 agreed. FFIX was the last good one. After that it went straight to shit.
