Digital Devil Saga 2

Spoilers and shit, so watch out.

I'm a big Persona fan and have enjoyed Nocturne and to a lesser extent, DDS1.

However I'm having my doubts about DDS2. Now we find out that Sera is an adult with the mind of a 7-year old, who's the only one with special powers to read data from God or some such.

I think at this point there must be a million video games and anime that focus on a female character who is either a child or acts emotionally like a child, who is either 'perfect' in design or is an alien/ancient being/robot/other non-human, and this character has the ability to save the world or other stuff like that.

So it's very disappointing that the normally unique RPG games Atlus makes now has this incredibly over-used and done to death plot twist. I had a bad feeling when I heard the shitty jpop intro song too (oh, I'm a Japanese woman singing like a soulful black singer - it doesn't work and that sound is so tiring now)

Have other die-hard fans found this disappointing? Is Atlus losing their originality or is this just a temporary setback? To sound totally ignorant I realize the Japanese are obsessed with little girls so it's important for them to center everything around that, but jesus fuck is it tiring to see that same thing played out over and over. I've enjoyed Atlus' earlier games because they *didn't* rely on cliched plots.

Who did the music for DDS2, btw, it's OK but not as catchy as DDS1 or Nocturne.

Are any of the side games worth playing

Assuming you are only interested in the English ones:

Persona - 1st generation PSX title so there is an unbearable amount of loading time coupled with a high frequency of random battles for even more loading. Otherwise a good game if you are VERY patient. Translation is fairly sucky.

Persona 2 - Fantastic game, basically fixes everything wrong with Persona and keeps all the good elements.

SMT: Nocturne - About as fun as Persona 2.

There are unofficial translation patches for some of the Super Famicom games, I think for SMT and SMT2. SMT2 is great.

Can't wait for AGTP to finish the Soul Hackers patch, though there's been no progress on that in a long time...

Shoji Meguro did the music for DDS2. He also did the music for SMT: Nocturne.

Shoji Meguro, yeah, you may find some songs from him at the internet. As always.
You know, its still pretty rare to see an electric guitar composer at games, so it's worth a look.

This was not even a plot twist, IMO. Just a plot element, it doesn't make any actual difference to the plot itself.

And it's not like the mind in Sera's body is not her own, she just  grew up faster than normal humans because of excessive contact with God.

Wow, I've never even heard of that game, but that plot sounds worse than what I'd be able to come up with in just two minutes, and my writing is awful.

Don't change these.
