Roms - Discuss

Wow...the world of Emulation and Roms is just great. So many classic games I missed because they cost a HUGE amount of money are now within my reach.

I prefer SNES, N64 and Megadrive. Haven't the patience or knowledge to try CD emulation (PS, Dreamcast etc.)

Question. I hear it is currently possible to play roms on a PSP. Will it still be possible in a while? (firmware?) And what are the risks?
I'm considering the PSP because it can be hacked relatively easy so you can store and play hundreds of oldskool games on it. But is there any trutrh to that? (Let's refrain from being /b/astards or couchniggaz ok?)

Aw, but CD emulation is fun. I just got Dracula X: Rondo of Blood working after an hour trying to get it run, turns out I was missing  System Card 3 :D

I'm looking for complete ROM collections.  There was a full MAME set years ago, haven't found one for the latest version.

thepiratebay.org has at least two torrents for complete sets of recent MAME ROMs on the go right now. They are topping out at 14Gb now, even excluding CHDs.

Anyway, to address the original poster's questions, the PSP can run unsigned code, ie. homebrew stuff, provided the system's firmware is version 1.50 or lower. Once you upgrade to 1.51 or beyond, the protection routines are activated so you can't do it. Some games come with firmware upgrades and the option to apply them (and at least one so far makes it mandatory to upgrade - expect many more titles to force a firmware upgrade in future). Sony seem dead against allowing unsigned code to run (mostly for anti-piracy reasons than a particular desire to piss on the homebrew coders' chips).

I remember full sets of both snes and atari games being avialable, where did those go, does no one care about organisation and easy to find files anymore?

I don't suppose where you know one could get GameBoy ROMs now would you?  Actually, I only want to Tetris and Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.  I own both too but not the GB anymore.. really.
