Some games are ambitious, to the detriment of the technology they were made to work with. Examples include games on crappy systems (3DO), FMV based games, and games that used 3D when it was still primitive. Using today's technology, what older games could use the fully 3D, detailed texture, high poly graphics of today?

Carrier Command on the Speccy rocked, even though it maxed out at about ten polygons on screen at once. Elite and Elite II are all-time classics, of course, but they were about more than the graphics - you could give them all the 3D loveliness you like nowadays, but it wouldn't make them better games.

Not exactly what fits the description, and a very cliche answer, sorry, but I'm gonna hafta go with a remake of Final Fantasy VII and possibly a few other older Square games. (though status of a few current fan-based Chrono Trigger remakes show there's none of that one anywhere on the horizon) (and I'll stick here that FF7 was not my favorite FF (FF9 was), it could just really use a graphic makeover.

Commander Keen. It isn't crappy IMHO, but it could use a 3D makeover.

No, it could use a 32-bit color hi-res 2D makeover.

Hell all the "3D" games of the bygone era should be remade, that'd be great. Space Harrier, Night Striker, World Runner, that one WR ripoff with the schoolgirl (Japanese only obviously), Burning Force, etc.

Life Force, old side scrolling ship-shooter for NES.
Ikari Warriors, needs online play too.
Thexder, (1986JP/1987US)
OLD OLD OLD Tandy PC game about a robot that turned into a ship, and had massivly destructive weapons. Released in the US in 1987. http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?name=Thexder
Tongue of the Fatman/Mondu's Fight Palace (1989)
a classic 2D PC fighter, had about 25 char to choose from, and some insane shit going on. I'd love to see it remade in 3D with 4 player bouts, and online play. http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=1170
If you seriously think FF7 still looks good, you need to remove the nostalgia glasses.
Also, did you bother reading anything in this thread?

Oh. It's been awhile since I tried that last so I couldn't remember which it was ripping. I can sense much fanservice in the remake though.

Wow. I can still remember those weird advertisements for it. Had some "American Ninja" flipping a gargoyle over his head. I think it was renamed something like Slaughter Sport later on for the Genesis port. That's definitely a bad game that has good potential.

Some good ones could use it...Still waiting on Midway to do something with Strikeforce. Man I love using rockets on those little lizard guys.
