Capcom Fighting Jam

So I bought this a couple days ago, expecting maybe a decent fighting game despite the negative hype. I looked through the instructions:
"4 fighters from 5 classic Capcom fighters!"
Oh dear.
The game is the biggest pile of shit I've ever played, 2d fighter-wise. They have actually taken one of Ryu's special moves out (The Shinku Tatsumaki-senpu kyaku for anyone who wants to know), and unlike Capcom versus SNK 2, you cannot change your fighting "style", if you would call them styles, more so different looking charge bars. Whatever character you choose, you have their "style", end of story. The sprites, as usual, have not been changed and look wildly out of place. The only consolation is that some Street Fighter III characters are in, which really isn't much considering there's only 4. Luckily for me, I had KOF 2000-2001 by my side, so I cured my utter dissapointment of CFJ by listening to Terry's hilarious engrish.

SF2 characters aren't supposed to have super moves at all (maybe a single super move, SSF2T-wise :P), but who cares?
...
Well, this game is hardly balanced, the Vampire/SF2 characters are overpowered, the gameplay is your average Capcom fighter, but I found it even slower than Capcom VS SNK 2.

With such games like these, I have no doubt 2D Fighters are dying. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if a CFJ2 were released

I think Guilty Gear may just keep 2D fighters going for a maybe a little while, but no doubt GG will end up 3D as well in the next 2 maybe 3 years.

i guess that capcom is mainly focusing on their newer 3d games so i can understand the lack of focus (evene though the SF fan in me screams TRAITORS!!)

bu look at SF3. that game is still in my opinion very impressive. if they would just pump out some more titles that were at that level or better things would pick up (but yeah yeah i relize 3d is probably a lot easier to program as opposed to drawing a million frames)

Seems like Capcom just don't have interest at all in 2D games anymore. They just sold SF to Capcom USA. Heck, between 97~2000 we got most of the best 2D fighters ever released, including SF3.

Even if modelling 3D characters isn't easy, they do look more appealing to the mainstream. This is where we're out. boo-hoo

It's pretty much established that 2D fighting games are dead. It's just a shame that so little companies take interest in this excellent genre. Ah well, I suppose there's SVC:Chaos still.

So true

And the only good thing to look for now from the Street Fighter label is the Udon comics...

Capcom vs Snk 2 > Marvel Vs Capcom II

Reason? Vice.

Hmm, although Capcom vs. SNK 2 is probably what I've played the most, If I had to pick a favorite it would probably by Kof 2k2. That game just felt "right" and I had a ton of fun playing it with my friends.

I'm looking forward to the Nadesico based fighting game, "Left" versus "Right."
