The Nippon Ichi games (Disgaea, La Pucelle, e

So, what do you think of the "chibi SRPG games?
I love em...all but La Pucelle.
Disgaea and Phantom Brave are great, and I'm looking for Rhapsody.

I haven't played any of them but I remember wanting Rhapsody a few years ago.

There sure is a lot of fan art for them though.

Disgaea topped the others by far, but still really enjoyed it.

All of them were very good games, La Pucelle was the most difficult and tactical.

I've only played La Pucelle. I got bored probably around half way through it and haven't touched it in months. I love the characters, animation, etc but somewhere along the line I got bored.

I really really want to play their other games though.

Don't play Rhapsody, it will make your want to kill yourself. I can easily say it was one of the worst PS games I ever played. Nothing like the latest Nippon Ichi games at all in terms of quality.

I haven't played it. I had heard good things and was going to buy a PS2 for Disgaea - I had wanted one for Guilty Gear X but didn't want to buy a console for only one game. I was hoping that the UK version might even have been improved to include the option of Japanese voices in-battle (as opposed to only in the cutscenes) in the entire year it took for the game to be released here after the American version.

Turns out that Konami were handling the UK release, and decided that not only would they not improve the game, but they actually removed the Japanese language option entirely from the game. I cannot see any sane reasons for this, other than

1) Pretending the game never HAD a Japanese speech option, so that nobody complains that the in-battle voices don't match
2) Shipping the game on a CD instead of a DVD to save some insignificant amount of money
3) "Ach, lets cut the Jap voices out of the game, I'm sure nobody wants them anyhow."

I do not currently own a PS2.

It was actually Koei, not Konami.

Anyway, Koei wanted to release the game with Japanese voices, but SCEE wouldn't let them use a DVD just to include them.

And SCEE (the bastards) haven't changed their position recently, so La Pucelle and Phantom Brave will lack Japanese voices as well.

I think SCEE just wanted something, however minor, to screw us with, since European law prevents them from rejecting any game from an already licensed publisher (like SCEA did with the likes of Metal Slut 3 and Gregory Horror Show)

I think they are pretty retarded, in the fact that they are all amazingly boring and require very little actual strategy and skill!

I loved Disgaea quite a bit, hated La Pucelle, and haven't had a chance to play PB. I thought Disgaea was an enjoyable tactical rpg with a great cast and funny plot for the most part. o.O

I actually bought Disgaea recently, having heard that it is the end all and be all of strategy gaming.

And well... I'll be damned if the game isn't turning my stomach in knots.

How true.  Any game where you can grind your characters will allow you to plow through with no challenge.  It's not really that strategic, either, compared to like... chess, or go, or something.  However, all the little progress bars make me cream my pants.  I spend about 10 times as much carefully cultivating my party than I do in the story mode.

I like all these games, but they certainly don't require much strategy. Rhapsody was a good game, but Japanese voices are an absolute NECESSITY. Your soul will shrivel if you don't have Japanese voices.

....I like those game very much, especially Disgaea. but, I hate that "half Japanese, Half English" voice in Disgaea.. (when you turned the voices to Japanese, when they attack, they still uses English voices)..

But really, Nippon Ichi's games are FUNNY, really..

Disgaea was my personal favourite. Not to knock the others but Disgaea was just more funny, lively, and the combat system was pretty awesome. Phantom Brave's new movement and attack systems were pretty darn good too, but Disgaea captured comedy in everything it did with bright and vibrant colours.

for gameplay, id really give it to phantom brave because of the better "turn" system, where its character based.

disgea. better jokes and better flow of story and all around better game experience

next phantom brave. story tries to take a more serious turn but its nothing we havent already seen in anime. plus danmit i hate the 5 turn till your phantoms return thing

la pucelle: good story. gameplay though... the attacks and the magic spells will drive you insane having to wait for them to laod (especially in the later levels where 30 monsters all do a grand 10 second spell on you)

Hmm. Disgaea is great. I've been through it once, fantasic game. La Pucelle.. I just recently got this. It seems okay so far, although I'm not too far. I also got Phantom Brave recently. it's been awesome so far.
