Amiga nostalgia thread

Hey, does anyone remember, like, all those amiga games? They were pretty cool. Like, uh, K240. Someone ought to do an internet-capable remake of that (Fragile Allegiance didn't count). Ramble, ramble.

Rome AD 92 was also not bad. You'd run around Herculaneum until you died of the volcano that engulfed it, whereupon you would be banned from the only boat out of town for being a mere slave, despite gotten money earlier. Then you'd start again, buy a dagger with the money this time and kill the boatman, whereupon there's nobody left who can row the boat. Read a walkthrough, start again, steal a citizen's toga from the baths leaving a naked guy running around trying to get on the boat later. Get onto the boat with your new disguise... only to get to Rome without any money and eventually starve to death because you're stupid and forgot to buy a dagger back in Herculaneum. That game was awesome.

Does anyone else have similarly fond memories?

Those 'huge' games where you'd constantly swap out the disks, just to load up new levels. Frontier elite was one of them I think.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-25 7:18

No, Frontier was one-disk (at least when I played it). I remember huge point-and-click adventure games that weighed in at like nine or ten floppy disks (Simon the Sorcerer, Kings' Quest VI), and you'd kick yourself for accidentally clicking off screen and having to load disk 4, only to go back where you came from and have it ask for disk 3 back.

Which, incidentally, I still do by accident while walking between stages in Half-Life 2.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-25 20:24

I recently bought a lot off eBay - don't remember them all but some Galdregon RPG (looks worst of the lot from what I've read but hey), Laser Squad, Beast Busters (it's way too hard to find incarnations of this game! Near impossible discounting this game, actually, since all that's left are the original ugly yellow arcade cabs! doh) and some other stuff I don't remember now.

I wanna try out Underneath A Steel Sky (Rebellion) on both PC and Amiga sometime.

Plus I need an Amiga. Got four Macs (at least, too bad they're either B&W or bad models), need an Amiga.

I recall my fave Amiga game (didn't own one, friend had two, and I was jealous because he never gave me the old 1000) was the Monty Python game. I forgot its title, but perhaps it was the original Monty Python's Flying Circus game. That game was beyond amazing, it was so dada. Every new level involved a laughing fit. It got a lot better when I discovered weed, too. All those brain cells I killed...

Name: Ed_Oscuro 2004-12-26 0:46

Ah, there's a bunch of old Monty Python games though. Absolute Waste of Time, Holy Grail, or was it a rather gray looking sidescroller where your score went down (hmm...only played the PC version a bit, sorry!)?

I own two Amigas but I've had to splice parts between them as they gave out. Someone ruined the case on one, I broke the RF modulator on another and had to swap the motherboards, someone levered off my spacebar and I had to swap the keyboard, the disk drive won't eject disks unless I pull them out manually...

I've been considering somehow wiring up my Amiga's motherboard into the PC case, perhaps it can be powered from the same type of connector that powers CD drives and hard drives, and it just takes a TV In card,a PCMCIA network card and some kbd/mouse adaptors to make a neat all-in-one system.

But, I'm not in all that much of a hurry to replay my old Amiga games, so I'll just settle for an Amiga emulator, for now.

there was a text rpg with a speech synth, i never got off the fucking boat, but it was amazing hearing a speech synth talk about masturbation and titties.

the killing game show, shadow of the beast, agony [best fucking music ever], and the porn in 256 colours was amazing

Name: Anonymous 2007-04-10 0:25 ID:Nv7t41/H

256? on a 286/386 maybe but ami's enjoyed 4,096 until the AGA chipset which delivered the all important 16.7million colors.

So does anyone remember the name of that Amigagame that sometimes came with the machine? Was a shootemup where you controlled a crosshair with your mouse and shit popped up in windows and behind stuff and you blasted it. I think you got a shotgun and machinegun after a while.

I used an Amiga 2000 until about 2004, actually.  That's when my dad got a new computer and moved the old one into the basement where the Amiga was.  It's still sitting in storage because he couldn't bring himself to sell it, and one of these days I'll buy it off him so I can play all those old games.

My favorite that he had was the text game "Arthur: The Quest for Excalibur" (something like that).  There was another first-person one that took place in a castle and it was all solid colors and polygons.  I also beat the first five King's Quest games on that thing.

Also, two player Lemmings FTW.
