Let's have a great big discussion on how great this game is.

First point: Rainbow Vomit.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-24 17:27

Second point: Fuck Namco Europe.

Name: Pierson 2004-12-24 17:39

Third point: See second point.

Name: theBiskuit 2004-12-24 17:39

Fourth Point: Do we need to point this out?

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-24 18:34

I'd play it more but it doesn't burn right for me.

You suck for not buying a 20$ game. :\

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-24 18:36

2004's most original game ever?

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-24 18:42

It's a work of art in many ways.

Namco sucks for not giving it a PAL release before Christmas

Name: Chris 2004-12-24 21:08

I give it 3rd best game of the year after Metal Gear Solid 3 and Tales of Symphonia.

Name: Ryoga Masaki !gOsPvFxarg 2004-12-24 21:22

King of all Cosmos makes it all worthwhile. Also one the best translated games yet, and by that I mean the fact that they didn't try to blatantly and painfully convert every aspect of uniquely Japanese things into a Western equivalent. Takoyaki didn't become octopus balls!

Name: Dirk Gently 2004-12-24 21:40

It was a great game, but a bit short. Still, it was only $20.

I'm pissed at Namco now for removing single-cart multiplayer from the NA release of Mr. Driller DS, though.

Not that that's strictly relevant, I just thought I'd mention it.

Namco sucks for not giving it a PAL release ever, due to some bullshit "technical problems". I bet the same technical problems wouldn't get in the way of them releasing another fuckin' Ridge Racer that isn't as good as the fourth one.

The sequel is apparently getting a PAL release though, so they better not fuck it up.

My favourite are pigeons riding around in shoes.

I hadn't played it in quite some time. Today I turned it on to show it to my brother as he was visiting my home and it revived my love for it.

zOMG PAL release? {Spasms}

I would'a thought it was too good a game for them to give us a PAL release0_o... I hope they don't make it full price, 'other 'uckers.

Name: ohnoitschris 2004-12-25 6:21

Technical problems my ass, due to the DS' lack of distinguishing regions how could there be any -technical- problems? I could understand problems with publishing there but I call bullshit on them.

He isn't talking about Katamari Damacy on the DS here. He's talking about the PS2 version.

Name: NWETC 2004-12-25 21:53

Is it just me or would Katamari Damashii DS rule?

Touch-screen balls of crud? YES PLEASE!

Name: ohnoitschris 2004-12-26 2:02

I know I'd buy Katamari Damacy DS.

I got to the end of the PS2 version and just kinda fell out. I dont usually play games for more than 5 minutes at a time (big GBA/DS fan here), and a forced 25 minute run for either passing or failing seems kinda crap to me. Eh :\

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-26 2:28

Katamari needs wayyy more replay value, though it's one of my picks for game of the year. Maybe you can create your own worlds for multiplayer rolling? Or a battle mode, where you roll up things like tanks and missiles and can use them against your opponent. OR, OO, OO!! Maybe you could go on missions in-game to collect only certain things or clear away a fire route or something. Needs more king.

I love this game because it's jsut plain fun. It's simple and enjoyable. Funny story, one of the first nights I got this game, one of my roomates came home stoned. I called him into my room to show it to him and told him he was in the perfect state of mind to chekc this out. I belive it blew his mind. Then again I think holding up the controller or waving at him would too.

Some of the missions are already like that (like the stage where you have to find the biggest cow (I sucked at that, I kept picking up the spotted traffic cones or a carton of milk), or pick up crowns).  You can play 2 player arena battles where if your katamari is bigger than the other person's, you can roll them up.

Still more replay value would have been nice, something like being able to go back with random objectives or randomized worlds.

They're working on #2, so hopefully they'll make the game bigger if not more-replayable.

I don't see why videogames all have to be stretched out to minimum 40 hours long. Katamari Damacy takes a very simple concept, expands it slowly to its logical extreme, and ends. The mission-based objectives work well as an aside to the main game, and I can see Everybody's Favorite Katamari Damacy working as a separate game with that as a focus. The first KD, as it is, though, doesn't need expansion.

I liked this game.  It reminded me a lot of Toejam and Earl from waaaaay back in the Genesis days.  A journey through a world like, and, yet unlike, our own.  It's brain candy!

Name: Kohsaka 2004-12-30 13:32

The music of the rocked as well. Honestly, where did they come up with those lyrics?! "I need you to fill me, I want to roll you up into my life, Let's roll up to make, a single star in the sky"? Shear genious!
It was always fun to go back during a stage and roll up the pigeon/crab/child/etc that pwned you earlier in the game when your Katamari wasn't big enought yet. And yes Raibow Vomit rulz all.
My only disappointment about the game is that the versus battles were such generic areas. It would of been nicer if they had more complex arenas for them, So there would actually be some actual navigation to it rather than just going in circles.

For a game like Katamari, it's good to keep it to the point. When you say "all" videogames, you're really just referring to the "story-driven" and location-driven genres of the RPG, FPS and similar types of games - action games, usually.

Katamari isn't exactly a puzzle game (in the traditional sense), but just like those games much of the fun comes from the game mechanic, not the game mechanics applied to countless scenarios. It's sort of between worlds, though - some folks wanted more areas (since, again, you can pretty much exhaust an area).

Fucking seconded.  Those "largest <insert animal here>" levels are pure bullshit.  "We can be patient for 10 minutes" my ass.

Rest of the game's good, though.

I'm glad that's not just me.  Spending five minutes carefully rolling around, building up your size, only to have someone throw a bear sign at you or some such crap sure does make for fun.

Name: AahpandasRun 2005-01-07 2:06

I wish they had a different control scheme in the second one, like mario 64 style controls.  The standard controls are wierd.. still not used to them yet.  2 analog sticks to move?  Feels like driving a crane

zomg edit different SELECTABLE control schemes.  And the game totally rocks besides wacko controls

Name: Anonymous 2005-01-07 9:43

I'm having a way hard time finding this game for rent (I don't own a PS2 so buying it would be fruitless).  My local Blockbuster and Hollywood videos don't carry it.  Are there any store chains (not NetFlix/Gamefly) that would carry it?

Have you played territory war online? It's like chess but even shittier because you have a 12 year old screaming obscenities at you after you kill all of his soldiers that were dumb enough to huddle close together below you as you drop a grenade on them.
The game is so easy. The player with the higher ground wins.

I really think if anymore Katamari Damacy games are released they should have more "new" challenges. Even in Katamari Forever at least half of the challenges are copied from previous games. We need more variety.
