I'm a britfag in the US. So far I've learned that eating healthily is damn near impossible in this fucking country. Walmart has two kinds of fish: catfish and tilapia. Where can I get Cod Fish? I tried Kroger, too, and they just have the same.
Also, it costs $3 for some fucking basil (23g). I can get 30g for under a dollar in the UK.
What the fuck am I doing wrong?
Should I just give up and eat a cheeseburger?

There's your problem right there. You want quality, you gotta pay good money for it. Have you tried a local fish market? The fish there is generally better than the garbage you pick up at a Wal-Mart. Also, it costs $3 for some fucking basil (23g).
A little thing of basil should not be that god damn much. Try another supermarket somewhere, bonus if they have it on sale.
Good luck.

Terrible! Well, that really explains the predicament you're in. :\ The best parts of the country are the coasts, man. I'm fond of the New England states myself. I really couldn't help you more than that as I live on the east coast. Good luck, though.

Try farmers markets. I can get a massive bunch of basil for a dollar.
He said that a farmer's market is not an option for him.

I know your pain, however you must adjust; a healthy way of life in the U.S. is very different and all about balance. If possible grow some of your own food and find a farmers market or a trader joe's (for good quality but expensive food). It is a shame that you can't find Cod however don't be so surprised, the U.S.'s fish stock is all but depleted of good quality fish. Don't eat the fastfood or drink tapwater here.

Since you seem to have trouble finding good fish I imagine you're living in one of the shitty parts of the country. Which is a shame.
The U.S. is the most inconsistent place at times. You live in the right area, or the right state even, and you'll have access to all the healthy food you could wish for.
Yeah,we're the "melting pot"that refused to melt together,so the country is really "segregating"and some of us think it might split in pieces, sooner or later,it's TOO BIG.Can you find "health food stores",uh.yes, farmer's markets, and larger metro area is good;I used to make my own yogurt all the time, for cheapness sake.If you can find areas, places where "health food enthusiasts " shop, that helps. We had a big revolution,(in some states)about food, and the "hippie-health-food trend"went mainstream, and a lot of it is now permanent.(Witness, yougurt everywhere.)So,whether you can find that in Illinois,I'm not sure about the geography.I STILL think you can find that influence there, somewhere.
All the fish in the ocean have been fished out, there does not seem to be any fish left.Tilalpia and Catfish are "scrub fish".Junk.In Oregon,we can still get salmon,I'm glad I'm here.I'll try to research Illinois, see what I come up with, will try and help you.
