hey /food/ I'm new with soups and got a few questions. What gives the soup its creamy white and tasty like flavor? I searched recipes and I'm confused if its whipped cream, milk, or baking soda? Anyone knows an easy soup recipe? Perhaps one that can be made even with canned milk? Also how important is parsley on soups? It is possible not to include it? I'm thinking of creamy potato soup how would you guys rate it? For beginners/starters or hard?

pic related, its a creamy soup!

I am a saucier, there are many ways to make a soup creamy except baking soda, wtf? Canned milk is perfectly fine. You can use a Beurre manié which is just flour and butter mixed together then added to the hot liquid, or its cousin a roux. I have found half and half works great in soups but stay away from a corn starch slurry, thats more for thickening sauces.

Cream of potato is a basic soup, and can easily be converted into a nice clam chowder.
