On January 12, 2007, Jennifer Strange, a 28-year-old woman and a mother of 3, from Rancho Cordova, California, was found dead in her home by her mother hours after trying to win one of Nintendo's Wii game consoles in KDND 107.9 "The End" radio station's "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest, which involved drinking large quantities of water without urinating. Because of the name of the contest, some believe that not urinating is related to hyponatremia (a condition related to water intoxication). This is untrue; this type of water intoxication is caused by excessive and rapid consumption of (sodium-free) water. No criminal charges were pressed, but the radio show and its staff were terminated.[11] The FCC has launched its own investigation to determine if the station violated the terms of its operating license.

that's a mighty lot of water! :(
what's a good price to pay for 1O gallons?

Just a bit less than it will take to kill you, and that amount varies.  Don't be an idiot.  Spin yourself around in circles or get an adult to buy you a beer.

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-20 0:14

there really isn't an amount of water that will kill you, so long as you add an appropriate amount of sodium.
actually, there probably is some amount that will kill you. and it will likely do that before you get high from it. or at least put you in severe pain.

Learn some basic chemistry -- sodium is incredibly reactive, and explodes on contact with water.  If it's strong enough to knock a hole in a solid brick wall, it's more than strong enough to blow your fool head off.

Yeah okay, sodium ions.  The electrolytes are commonly referred referred to by the elemental.  Learn some basic physiology; or better yet, don't be a dick.

Getting high is a symptom of intoxication.
It is possible to drink enough water to intoxicate yourself.
So you definately can get high from water!

Intoxication a state of being affected by a substance after it is administered and distributed throughout the body.  Intoxication includes any effect(s) that are observed and the type of effects observed depend on the what the substance is.  With alcohol and drugs, there is a "high" feeling, but with other substances such as water, the effect is feeling like crap and feeling like you are dying.

Water poisoning is actually caused by throwing off the concentration of salt and electrolytes in the body's fluids.  This can happen by drinking a ton of water in short period of time or when salts are sweated out of the body and a person regains fluids by drinking water but doesn't resupply the salt lost.  This is the reason why many athletes drink sports drinks instead of straight water.

Water poisoning is a very serious matter because with screwing with the salt concentrations leads to screwing up of the concentration gradient going in and out of the body's cells.  This causes cells to swell and die off thus leading to serious complications including nausea, tremors, and headache, or more seriously brain swelling, seizures, coma, and death.

I know this because I got messed up after going to Warped Tour a few years back on the hottest day of summer and drank nothing but straight water all day.  I was lucky, but it took me awhile to get back to normal.

As Paracelsus once said, "Alle Ding sind Gift, und nichts ohn Gift; allein die Dosis macht, daß ein Ding kein Gift ist." or "All things are poison and nothing is without poison, only the dose permits something not to be poisonous."

So kids, don't screw around with trying to get high off of water, or if you try, you probably deserve to be eliminated from the gene pool.  Just do what >>11 says and find other means of getting your buzz.

Yet another 4chan'er trying to get internet people killed.

too much water will poison you.
in your intestine there are these things called sodium ion pumps designed to help regulate shit like nerve impulses.
if you drink too much water you risk diluting the sodium on the outside of the stomach, which will create a potential across the pumps.
So they will begin releasing Na+ ions into your belly which will remove much needed salt from you.

but drink water with high salt content
and your body will begin releasing wato your stomach, diluting the sodium ions to remove them from near the sodium ion pumps, and as a result you will be both dehydrated and your stomach will begin to bloat from all the water being released into it.

don't fuck around with water.
