Genes? I think it comes down more to what you grew up with. I'm Irish and I love the stuff. Being raised in Southern California you pretty much HAVE to like the stuff (and I do!). To folks that are new to it I've heard that they think it tastes like soap.

chinese. cilantro is everywhere; we use it like parsley. made me hate chinese food.
I rarely find it in Chinese food in the US so no biggie.. but when I was in China, they had it in almost every dish and had to ask them to omit it every time I ordered something.

I think it's because I was raised by a Mexican mother is why I enjoy eating cilantro. I have been informed by texans that their cilantro tastes like soap. That's unfortunate. That's what happens when your kitchen has more airborne chemicals than it does cleanliness.
