Okay guys, I recently moved into my own apartment off campus and now I'm starving. I don't know how to cook aside from really simple stuff like pasta and garlic bread.
Do you have an suggestions? Recipes, tips, cookbooks, whatever?
I'd like to eat on the healthier side of things but I'll be happy with anything as long as it tastes good and isn't too much of a hassle.
Thanks.

1. Loaf of bread.
2. Can of pilchards (pref. in tomato sauce
3. Eat
The above gives you pretty much everything you need to survive, it's dirt cheap and it requires no preparation.
Unfortunately by your third can you never want to see a pilchard again.
Good grief. Okay, you know what a sardine is? Well, a pilchard is pretty much the same only slightly bigger.

pasta is healthy, and the variety of sauces you can make for it is inexhaustible. grab a book of pasta recipes and experiment. with a bit of skill, you can make quick, tasty and healthy pasta dishes out of pretty much anything you have lying around.
it'll also get you into the habit of keeping fresh vegetables lying around. experiment with salads while you're at it, and you're set.

for the same amount of money you could buy nicer food.
eating subway everyday is cheaper than buying groceries.
No, that's the point - the ingredients are ridiculously cheap. You could probably buy enough cans of pilchards to build a house with for a couple of hundred bux (assuming you wanted a pilchard-can house of course)

If ramen is all you eat expect to be pissing stones in under a year :/
Get a George Forman Grill, or some reasonable knock-off. Then all you need is some ground beef and creol seasoning for great burgers. Sausage and hot dogs are easy too.

Seconded, thought those things were stupid before I got one. They are grreeeeat for steaks and bugers and other stuff that will clog you up and kill you :x
And by stones I ment from all the salt, it can give you some bad things to be pissing out.

I've recently discovered the value of a good toast-r-oven.
Have a bagel? Slap some meat and cheese on it and heat up for a minute or two. Tastey sandwich, ftw.

Get a microwave with a "Sensor Cook"
will help so much.
Anyway, take a potato and poke holes all over it with a knife. Wrap it in plastic wrap, and put it on baked potato setting. Prepare anything else you want to add at this time. Instant Bacon , put it on the paper towel and get ready to stick it in. slice up any vegetables, toss them all in the bowl. When the potato is done, get it out of the wrap, drop it in the bowl. Cut it up as much as you can, then start mashing it.
When everything is mixed up and the potatos mashed, put a layer of cheese (shredded preferably)on top of it, and put it in for 90 seconds. Go get yourself a drink, the pull it out, put a towel or something underneath it to keep it from getting too hot on whatever you're putting it on, and dig in.
