Beer!

I didn't used to like beer - I was more into hard liquor (gin and tonic, hooray).  But a few years ago I finally found beer I liked at a Belgian restaurant (Flemish sour ale at Monk's Cafe, http://www.monkscafe.com/).  So I've been experimenting.  Today I went to a German place (http://www.ludwigsgarten.com/) that was pretty awsome.  I got some kind of Oktoberfest beer that was so-so, don't recall the name: Both of these sites only have a fraction of their beer menus online.

My favorite that I can actually obtain (can't get Flemish sour ale anywhere else, it seems) is Spaten Optimator, a German dopplebock.  Its dark and smooth, and a little stronger than normal (like 7% alcohol).  I kinda like Guiness, but didn't like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - both bitter, but I didn't like the flavor of Sierra Nevada.

Any thoughts on beer?

why would anyone drink beer to get wasted. Liquor is cheaper and more effective in thelong run if you want to get wasted. If you want a buzz beer is good and tasted good if it isn't american piss water.

Alcohol generally fails. Why anybody would drink it is totally beyond me. It really tastes like shit and its effects are mostly unpleasant. Sure, I do it too so I don't appear like some kind of weird loser since everybody else does it. But I try to limit it to the absolute minimum and I'd never do it out of my own motivation.

I like most of the Polish beers, especially "Tyskie" :) BTW I've noticed that in Europ, going more to the west results in more watery beers. :|

I had Hoegaarden last night, and that stuff is FANTASTIC.  Apparantly, Belgian beer = teh win

English ale is good, but it can't beat a dark German lager or even a Belgian brew. Chec brews I've heard are pretty good too. There is the real Bud Weiser, made in the town of Bud Weiss

The one Czech beer I had, Pilsner Urquell, sucked.  I'm all about the dark German and Belgian brews though...

Here in Oregon we have a shitload of micro-brewries. Many are very good. I am drunk much of the time and my gut is so big I cant see my cock at full mast! And I have a 9" boner! ;(
