internet help

so my laptop has been unable to hook up to the internet wire.  it works on my firends laptop and i was wondering if there was a way to fix it. i was also wondering what the yellow and orange light above the Ethernet port are for because i dont remember seeing them on before but now they are on anytime i turn on the computer.

It sounds to me like the jack that your Ethernet cord plugs into became unseated from the Motherboard somehow. Normally, those two lights are only on when an Ethernet cable is plugged into the jack.
