My motherboard (ASUS M5A97 PRO, UEFI-based) has 6 SATA ports. When I connect my HDD with OS installation (Windows XP) to any of these, everything boots just fine. The same happens when I connect additional non-bootable hard drives, but if any of these additional HDDs is connected to a SATA port BEFORE my system HDD SATA port, I can't boot from my system HDD anymore - even if I configure boot order properly or manually choose it as a boot device. All I get is: ``Reboot and select proper boot device bla-bla-bla''. So, looks like you can only boot from the very first SATA HDD in your system according to port number. Is it true? Cause I'd like to use my SATA1-SATA4 ports, which are nicely grouped together, for storage HDDs, also grouped together, and have my system HDD connected to SATA5.
