Creating

Hello, I have an understanding of UNIX utilities, fair of C++ and small of java, but am, of course, newfag. My aim for these hollidays is to create a super (at least half a gig) encrypted messaging application. Which ones already exist and do you have any other advice on the subject?

And of the ones that do exist is there any code base for them?
