After a Virus

I just rid myself of some Virus and now attempting to open anything on my computer (executable programs not in internet) ask me what program i want to run it as (I'm not given the option to pick default). When I right click one option is added "start" which starts the program normally yet right clicking on something every time just to open it is annoying. Help please

I run VISTA & ESET 

Changing Users/ Rebooting is my LAST resort reinstalling everything is a hassle. I don't have an earlier backup either.

i see your problem right there. get win 7 and mse (at least get rid of eset and get mse)
