Can someone explain what HTTP headers are?

A header is simply the head on a page. It's often a logo or a banner, or something of the sort.

HTTP headers are basically strings of information that make up the core form of an HTTP request. Basically they are bits of information that the Web browser and the Web server use to help communicate each other with over the HTTP protocol. This is usually done behind the scenes, but that extension will allow you to be able to see that right in front of you.

No, you're thinking of a header in the sense of document formatting. Not really the same thing at all.

Could you give me an example of this information? Or is it just status codes, like 401 etc ?
