cleaning out the computer

Name: Anonymous 2010-03-26 17:30

What are easy ways to clear out the random crap I have in my computer that I don't use anymore so I have more space?
I've done disk cleaner, defragmenter, and uninstalled some crap programs.

Is there a way to look for folders that hold the most space?

50% of the space used is in documents and settings folder.

movies and music take the most space, especially movies, move those to an external hdd or burn them to dvds.

Dont bother with compression if you were thinking about it - you'll only reduce the size by 1%

40% is of vids and music i'm too lazy to look though or organize

Use WinDirStat ( http://windirstat.info/ ) to see which are the larger files on you hdd and back them up or delete them.

open up the windows search tool (f3) and type *.* (or type nothing) and search.  you might want to specify a minimum size, like 1 MB.  When it is done, click sort by size.  works okay unless you have a lot of small files that fill your hd
