can someone recommend a free antivirus program that can be set not to run in the background, at all? i've downloaded several but they've all had 'protection shields' and etc that run no matter what (unless i uninstall, or manually shut them off in msconfig/services.msc, which just turn themselves back on if i actually use the program).
i just want a decent antivirus program that i can start up, scan my system with if i think i may have picked something up, then shut off and be done with until i need it again. I don't need 8 kinds of background protection eating up processor time and interferring with legit programs.
