Networking

i feel like i have a terrible network at home but i only know the very basics of networking and while i have much experience it was in a network of 2048 external ip-addresses, so the only internal ones were small service-clusters.

my network setup consists of two external ip-addresses, thinking of getting a third for this exact reason, and they're both assigned to a PowerEdge 2650 server that acts as a router with nat.

behind this server i have another router, a time capsule base station for wlan connecting all my private computers, which right now only consist of one macbook.

so basically my macbook has an ip the server doesn't understand so the server has to route its packets through the wlan gateway.

a wlan card in the server would probably also be one solution but it runs freebsd and is pretty old, also i kinda like the time capsule for the backup feature.

so that's why i want a third external ip for my wlan gateway.

my issue here is that i'm running a torrent tracker on the server and i can't seed anything!

i believe the reason of this is that the ip-address being registered by it as ME, is internal to the LAN side of the server. once through the nat it doesn't make sense, yet it is being stored in the tracker database and sent out as a peer to external peers.

of course this doesn't work so what alternative solutions would you offer?

oh and installing a torrent client on the server has of course occurred to me but the virtual disk isn't too big and it simply isn't a good solution in the long run.

though i do plan on buying a PowerEdge T610 sometime before summer and it will expand the size to about 250GB in raid1.

and also provide better options of attaching external drives.

Don't change these.
