My computer was hit by lightning

My computer was hit by lightning, what could possibly be ruined?

Well, the computer turns on, the fans spin, the monitors turn on, but nothing shows up on the monitors. I know for a fact the motherboard is dead, or SOMETHING would show up, Since it turns on the power supply is fine.. Anything else I can figure out?

I use an ASUStek m3n72-d motherboard, so i plan to buy an identical from newegg.

Given your symptoms, any or all of the following could be fucked:

PSU
Motherboard
RAM
CPU
GPU

Your motherboard may actually be fine, though it's impossible to tell without more details. If you have the resources (or a friend), test each component before you rush into buying anything. Also, invest in a decent surge protector next time... or do you mean your computer was literally and directly struck by lightning?!?

My grandmother's machine fried a few weeks ago. Her old ass house got hit HARD and she had taken the surge protector I had installed for her computer and stole it for another room. From the looks of it, the damn thing had been on fire briefly. Black soot on the now dead PSU and mobo, RAM was dead, CPU heat sink clearly melted a bit (didn't bother looking at CPU). Replaced the whole machine, went to recover her docs from old HD, BIOS didn't even see it, didn't spin up, nothing. The daughterboard must've been fried, too.

If it were, his computer would now be a puddle of molten copper.

The PC case would likely act as a Faraday cage, directing the lightning around the outside to the ground, leaving everything inside unharmed. The same thing happens when cars are hit by lightning. So really, it would be more dangerous for the lightning to cause a power surge than to hit the computer directly. Maybe. I would love to see someone try it somehow.

Don't change these.
