Need help with live streaming to many people.

I need to know how to upload a video for live viewing. The idea is that whatever the event is that I'm recording will be uploaded to a server for viewing. The only problem? I have no idea what hardware/software I need to do this. I've done some research and found out that the more people that are viewing it the faster your upload speed has to be. I think the average upload speed per viewer is around 14KB.

I need something better than that; I'm takling about a couple hundred viewers bare minimum, so a 1.5mbit/sec isn't going to cut it. Then I figured, if I could have it uploaded to a server, then have people download it from there, that might be easier, this way there will be only one stream too worry about, and then a large people could just go to the server, download it, and have it done that way.

The only problem is that I'm very lost, and very confused about what needs to be done, so basically any nodge towards the right direction would be appreciated. Also, yes, I really have no idea what I'm doing, since I'm more ad-libing as I go along.
