Sinowal-FV virus :(

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-29 14:45

Hey guys. Just a couple days ago I started up Windows and avast tells me that i've been infected with the Sinowal-FV virus. I chest and/or delete it, yet every startup the virus reappears (under startup as uninstall.exe).

I've run boot scans, and deleted it there (there were I think 3 seperate infected files) and full scans via avast, spybot doesn't turn up anything, ad-aware supposedly removed it from my reg. but it comes back every startup!

I'm kind of a noob with this so any help/recommendations would be awesome! Thanks.

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner <----- online scan

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ <-----online scan

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ <----- online scan

http://www.malwarebytes.org/ <----- download and run full scan (it's free)

good luck.

Thanks a lot anon, I'm trying them now. I've also used malwarebytes before and it never comes up with anything (maybe because this sinowal is identified as vicious spyware?). I also think I may have to delete my system restore files (as it's hiding in a few of them), but I'm afraid that's just when my computer will mess up haha and I need this running as best as possible for two more weeks.

right click on "my computer" and go to properties, then go to the system restore tab and disable system restore, also run the scans in safe mode.

Use Superantispyware and Combofix.  Try Avira instead of Avast.

go into the unix terminal for your computer then use the cd command to go into your directory and then use ls to list all the files then find the one that has the virus an anti-virus software could find the infected file then us the rm command to remove that virus and then log out

Yeah, everyone knows you should have an uptime of at least the gestation period for loxodonta africana.

Don't forget to disable system restore and reboot.  Also scan in safe mode.

Delete System32 so the virus leaves no duplicates.

If nothing works, use Safe mode and try to disable yourself from accessing it...
I know it sounds stupid, but basically the computer opens the file as if you commanded it to be opened.

Don't change these.
